Back in 2004, the country of Georgia pretty much had only one type of police officer – corrupt. President Mikheil Saakashvili became fed up and fired 15000 officers in one day and another 15000 over the next couple of weeks leaving the country with virtually no police force whatsoever for three months while new recruits were trained.
Did the country descend into an anarchic pit of violence and crime?
Hardly. The crime rate actually dropped significantly as it had been the corrupt police force behind most of the criminal activity.
